“Then God said, “Let lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them be signs to mark the seasons, days, and years. Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth.” And that is what happened. God made two great lights—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.” Genesis 1:14-18 NLT
There is a beautiful song by Hillsong Worship called “So Will I.” The lyrics speak directly to the handiwork of God and all that exists on our planet. One of my favorite lines in the song says, “If creation still obeys you, so will I.”
How often do we stop to think about the awe-inspiring facts about our Heavenly Father found in the very first chapter of the bible? His words created light. Light represents God’s purity, glory, and love. He then separated the light from darkness (Genesis 1:3). He breathed the galaxies into existence — shooting stars and all! He formed a butterfly’s wings so they would boldly soar through the sky. He created you and me, complex beings with lungs to breathe and a heart to pump blood through our bodies.
Our Mighty Creator holds the world and everyone in it in the palm of His Hand. Yet, He is personal and loving enough to concern Himself with the details of each one of our lives. Nature worships God, and His creation testifies to His sovereignty. Friend, everyone is made to worship God, the Father of Lights!
One of the ways to worship the Father of Lights is to practice P-P-O!
P – Praise
P – Press
O – Obedience
Praise Him often, friend. Spend time telling Him how much you love and appreciate Him. Thank Him for the things you love about all He created. Throw on some worship music and sing of His goodness and faithfulness. Express your gratitude for His very presence in your life.
Press into His Word regularly. You cannot worship, praise, and serve someone you do not know! His Word teaches us about His character. So, open up your bible and ask Him to reveal Himself to you personally.
Obedience is love (John 14:23). Just as nature responds to God, we are called and created to respond to The Father of Lights and all He commands. We should live our lives like a love song to our Creator.
Finally, I encourage you to spend some devotional time out in the open, where you can feel and hear nature around you. God is everywhere in nature! Let Him speak to your spirit as His gentle breeze blows through your hair. Take a moment to study His design and every sweet-smelling flower’s uniqueness, and watch as the trees sway and dance in the foreground of a perfectly blue sky. In nature, His presence is undeniable!
Prayer:
Father of lights, I thank You for every miracle of creation. Forgive me for taking it all for granted. You deserve my worship every day because You, O God, are worthy and sovereign! I take this moment to be still in You, in Your divine design. Help me to sense Your nearness. Breathe on me, God. Renew me, refresh me, and fill me with Your Holy Spirit.
I love You, Jesus.
I love You, Savior.
I love You, Father of Lights.
Amen
